Valentine Box Ideas

If you’re here asking what a valentine box is, first of all, I envy you.

Second of all, around these parts a valentine box is a box that kids decorate so that on Valentine’s Day, other kids can pass by their desk and insert valentines.

Then each kid has their own decorated box full of little valentine cards and candy.

They’re often a shoebox or something similar, with a slot cut out to allow kids to put in the valentines.

It’s up to the kiddos to think of and create the valentine box ideas. So if you’re stuck, here’s a great one for you!

Valentine Gift Boxes

These beauties that Kara dreamed up can do double duty, friends.

If you have a kid in elementary school who needs a valentine box idea, you’ve come to the right place.

But you can also use these yourself as valentine gift boxes for anybody you might be giving a gift to this Valentine’s Day!

Giant Chocolate Boxes

What goes together better than Valentine’s Day and chocolate? Nothing!

So this valentine box idea is designed to look like giant chocolates, from the drizzles to the sprinkles.

They are the absolute perfect way to wrap up your Valentine’s gift for any loved one. And they are surprisingly easy to make, too.

No fancy craft supplies needed. So grab a paint brush, paint, and your glue gun and lets get crafting.

Supplies You’ll Need

Paper Mache Boxes. You can probably find boxes like this at your local craft store. Here’s a great set of boxes that I love which can be found online.

Acrylic Paint or Craft Paint. If you want the look of a chocolate truffle, make sure you have some chocolatey brown paint! Or you can use multicolored paint to mimic the look of sprinkles.

Paint Brushes. I keep this set around for craft projects.

Hot Glue Gun. A staple in your craft closet!

How to Make Valentine Boxes that Look Like Chocolate

DIY Valentine Box Ideas (3)

  1. Use the hot glue gun to make chocolate swirls, curls, and drizzles on the lid of your paper mache box and let dry. For these three boxes I went with sprinkles for the white chocolate, drizzle for the dark chocolate, and a swirl for the milk chocolate.
  2. Paint the boxes with your chocolate colored paint. Let dry.
  3. Repeat with a second coat of paint if needed.
  4. For the sprinkle box, I painted the box with two coats of creamy off white first and then came back with colored acrylic paint and a small paint brush and painted just the raised hot glue “sprinkles”.
  5. Allow all paint and glue to dry.
  6. If using as a class valentine box, use a box cutter or craft knife to cut a rectangular slot in the box wide enough to fit valentines in.

Notes

If you're not using this valentine box idea for class valentines, simply don't cut out a slot through which classmates would slide their valentine cards.

Once all the paint and glue is dry, add paper shreds or tissue paper to the box, place some gifts, treats, or candies inside, and add the lid.

Top with a pretty silk or velvet bow and it makes a lovely gift box.
